Discussion: Responsible investment in an era of Trump 2.0?
Ian Gamon, Partner at LCP, will chair a roundtable discussion on the challenges and outlook for responsible investment against the backdrop of Trump’s presidency.
- How Trump 2.0 affects action on climate change and net zero and what that means for investment portfolios?
- How are investment managers responding to the ESG backlash and what should asset owners be asking them?
- More risks or more opportunities for sustainable investments?
Members of the CICP will address these questions and invite participants to share their experiences.
Presentation: How to preserve capital in a volatile world
Charlotte Yonge, manager of the Trojan Ethical Fund, at Troy Asset Management Limited, looks at the challenge of capital preservation given the current structural backdrop.
Equity valuations are currently high, implying prospective returns are likely to be lower from this starting point. In turn, heightened concerns around the sustainability of US government debt levels and rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and Eastern Europe add further uncertainty. Whilst the bulk of the market believes a soft landing is likely, investors are exposed to potential downside risks if this does not materialise.
Avoiding trap doors by not investing in illiquid, overvalued corporate bonds, companies with weaker business models or alternative investments is crucial. Winning by not losing and being ready to take advantage when opportunities present themselves is core to this strategy.
